General Capillaroscopy Guidelines

  • The patient must have been in a room with a constant temperature of 20-23ºC for 15 minutes prior to examination.
  • Patient should refrain from smoking and drinking caffeinated drinks for 4 hours prior to examination.
  • Fingers which recently traumatised shouldn't’t be examined.
  • Nail-polish and such chemical shouldn’t be removed.
  • Apply a drop of immersion oil. Too little will cause reflection and less visiblity for capillaries.
  • Do not examine thumb.
  • It is recommended to take capillaroscopic images from left to right, starting with patient’s right hand 5th ( little finger), and ending with the left hand 5th (little finger)
